Our scene is set inside of a sewer, steaming with stench. Outside, the midnight bell is ringing, the sounds of a church service filtering in softly with the moonlight. Our characters come from the ranks of the outcast and the despised. The ones who make you sick to your stomach, turn up your nose and want to vomit. Insects, sewer-fillers, pests: the Rat (Ákos Kerekes), the Worm (Henrietta Csüdöm) and the Skunk (Szilárd Gáspár-Barra). For all their repulsiveness, they are childlike creatures who lament their sense of being outcasts from the world. They are boiling with rage! And, of course, with a desire for revenge. But their rage and desire for revenge are pointless, they do not know who or what to take revenge on, and consequently, how. And so they are better off just hating. Until they are joined by the Fly (Barbara Kerekes), who opens their eyes: it is the people, even humanity itself, who are to blame for their being forced into the sewers as outcasts. Suddenly, everything becomes clear and the picture comes together! "Of course! Indeed!" they shout. Let us take revenge on humanity! But how? The Fly has the answer to that too, for it is no coincidence that she has appeared out of nowhere... an alliance is formed, then a plan, and they set about implementing it. But things don't go according to plan...

The Hate Varieté is a black comedy in which one plunges deeper and deeper into a well of resentment, at the bottom of which one finds oneself confronted with their belief in happiness and themselves.
