Revolution is a response to the attempt to deprive people of their right to make decisions. When freedom of opinion is abolished, when members of the community can no longer shape their own destiny, when truth is suppressed and suppression becomes justice, then sooner or later there is no other means left but revolution. The repressed words, the forbidden thoughts and the silenced resistance will eventually explode.

But the idea of revolution has always had a dual nature: on the one hand, it holds the potential for freedom and renewal, and on the other, it carries the threat of chaos and violence. Throughout history, we have been confronted with this duality time and again: revolution can be both liberating and destructive, heroic and tragic, hopeful and terrifying. Every rebellion holds the promise of the future, but also the shadow of the past.

Wyspiański's play shows with brutal honesty the man grinding in the grip of these terrible forces - the struggle between divine forces and human frailties, between divine frailties and human forces. Is revolution really the key to freedom or is it just another instrument in the struggle for power? Is there such a thing as pure rebellion that does not lose its moral foundations in a spiral of violence?

In this struggle, only the never-ending desire for freedom can bring salvation - the inner fire that will not allow man to renounce himself, his community and the world in which he lives. Only the never-ending desire for freedom can bring salvation.
